ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How does an author decide "on" social commentary?
Learners read their independent novels.
Learners used the rest of the period to draft the essay on "The Destructors." I asked learners to consider how Graham Greene "constructs" the story in order to reflect the society in which he lived and why that context might be necessary for a deeper understanding of the short story.
As learners worked on their essays, I met with learners to discuss their learning inventories and progress to date.
